Hello!

We are using Parsington for a Java report module. I have two questions:

1. Considering updating from Parsington from 1.0.5 to 3.1.0. Is there anything important which has changed in terms of using the library?  Does 3.1.0 "behave" or compute differently?

2. There has been no commits to https://github.com/scijava/parsington in two years. Is the project still maintained? I would be interested in helping with maintenance, my github username is andreasrosdal if you want to add me as a developer, I could help with maintenance and merge pull requests, update dependencies etc.

Regards,
Andreas Røsdal

Hi Andreas,

Great to hear that Parsington is useful to you!

2.0.0 and 3.0.0 major version increments were not very breaking.

The bump to 3.0.0 was due to raising the minimum Java version from 6 to 8:
https://github.com/scijava/parsington/commit/ef094b1a05e9bce8f8a7fead735492d3d3c5defd

The bump to 2.0.0 was due to the package prefix being renamed from org.scijava.parse to org.scijava.parsington, to better match the artifactId.

So you should be fine to update: the API remains the same. If you run into any trouble, file a GitHub issue and I'm happy to help!

The reason there have been no commits in two years is because there have been no pull requests or issues filed in two years. And the project is complete and stable in my view. So while I appreciate the offer, there is not really much to do as a maintainer! To be honest, Parsington has been one of my favorite projects to build: very targeted scope, and not too many design compromises. That said, if there are specific things it does not do, but that you wish it did, let's discuss on a GitHub issue!

Regards,
Curtis
