A stretch goal is just that - a goal above and beyond your initial goal, where those additional funds will do something extra. Once you hit your initial goal, you get all funds beyond that (this is why I had avocated early on for a 'funding unlocked' strategy) and the stretch goals are for additional work you can achieve. So, it's something to shoot for, and provide a goal as motivation for getting there.

It's not required, but for folk who are getting close to their goal, it's something to think about. Although, the Experiment folk can tell me if I'm wrong about this - not sure you can add stretch goals mid-stream or not (or can you?)

You can add stretch goals mid stream, but you may want to get in contact with our team. I'm going to be out of town this weekend so Oscar will be your best contact!

But if my goal is $3,000 and I raise more, I get all of it, even without making an official stretch goal?

Hey David, here's a full explanation (and example) of how stretch goals work: https://experiment.com/blog/59-stretch-goals-explained.

We've also had researchers edit their "shot synopsis" text (to the left of the video) to say something like "All funds raised from now on will go towards [new objective]." That helps puts the [new objective] in context when people see it in the Budget section.

Hope that helps!
Oscar

Great- thanks! Most of my funders seem to be finding me through twitter or my FB page or blog, so I think they already have some understanding of where the funds are going, but I'll take a look at this!
