My 11 year old grandson, James was at a flea market today when he saw an old electric typewriter for $2. Luckily he didn't buy it (probably cost a lot of money to make it work). He says he rather have a typewriter than a laptop. I pulled out my Granddad Davis (L.C. Davis Pulp Writer) old 1950 Remington Rand manual typewriter for him to see if he really wanted one. From the moment he saw it he was excited. I now need to find a smaller and much lighter typewriter for him. I see in him a future writer. I wish I had a fraction of the imagination he has. If buying him a typewriter will help him unleash his imagination I am all for it. I remember when I was his age and I bought a cheap used typewriter. I wore it out writing.

Happy Camper,
Ric

My wife was looking on eBay for a typewriter. They averaged between $20-250 each. Shipping was $20 and up. We have several flea markets in the area. I'm sure we can find one typewriter for less than $20. If it makes him happy and helps him, it is a good investment. In about an hour we are going to check out some flea markets. Later we'll go to the storage unit we are renting to grab a few things (hopefully empty it out this month). After that we will go to my wife's oldest daughter's house. My stepson's fiancé is coming down for a visit. Busy day.

I found 3 typewriters. 2 at one flea market. 1 was heavier and older than what I have, The other was a kid's and they wanted $50 for it.
The third was at Goodwill for $20 Royalite with a case. It needs some cleaning and the keys need to be oiled, My wife bought some things for the youngest granddaughter. If it is still there next weekend I'll pick it up. Hopefully with some work it will be good.

Thanks. I asked him this morning if he was still interested and he was. Now to see if we can find one.

Nice that you encourage your grandson's writing. He will remember that about you. I hope he enjoys the  old typewriter and tells some terrific stories with it!
