OT: Gladiator and Frankenstein

I'm doing a study on The Gladiator by Wylie and I can see some similarities between it and Frankenstein. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed it?

Actually I read somewhere a long time ago that Gladiator was the basis for Siegal and Schuster's original Superman concept.

I've heard that, but I was wondering if Frankenstein was what inspired Wylie to write Gladiator.
