Dear SSLA colleagues,

At our next SSLA monthly meeting on Friday, 6 March, we will hold a board election. As at least one current board member will not stand for re-election, we are inviting nominations and expressions of interest from the community.

If you are interested in running for a board position, please reply to this mailing list (or contact the current board directly) ahead of the meeting. To keep the election smooth and transparent, we kindly ask candidates to prepare a short statement to share during the meeting (about 1–2 minutes): who you are, why you would like to serve, and what you would like to contribute to SSLA over the next term.

In line with the CAA SIG guidelines, the SIG is run by a small committee handling the day-to-day coordination. For SSLA, this includes a Convenor, Vice-Convenor, and Secretary. Typical responsibilities include: coordinating the monthly online meeting series (programme planning, speakers, moderation), managing communication channels (mailing list and announcements), outreach on social media, liaising with CAA as needed, and supporting SIG-related activities.

SSLA thrives on a small group of people who keep the meetings running, help shape the programme, and ensure continuity. So if you’ve enjoyed the series and would like to help steer it, this is a great moment to step in.

With best wishes,

Martin

Hi everyone,
a quick reminder:
At our next meeting, Friday, 6th March, we will have to elect a new board (convener, vice-convener, secretary). Please consider whether you would like to help organise the meetings. It really is not too much work: Once a month write an email with a zoom link, sometimes invite speakers, moderate a meeting, take some notes, upload them. As the three people share the load, it is quite manageable. I do think, it would be interesting to see others taking up the organising roles, just to see what a change may change. 😉 Also, as Martin said, we really do need someone new to step up.
Looking forward to see you all on Friday,
best wishes,
Sophie

Dear all,

we will meet tomorrow as usual at 4pm CET (10 AM EST, etc ... ) to elect board members and exchange news. Let's also plan in more detail, how an when to meet up at the CAA in Vienna.

Please find the meeting link here:

So far, Matteo Tomasini indicated his willingness to serve as a board member. Clemens Schmid and I would be happy to give our roles to others hoping to step in, but would also continue to serve, if nobody else wants to take a more active role. Martin Hinz will not be standing for re-election.

Feel free to still put yourself up for election at the meeting itself or to volunteer as election manager and count the votes. ;-)

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow and in Vienna!
All the best
Sophie

Dear SIG members,

at the meeting today we elected Matteo Tomasini as Convener, and re-elected Clemens Schmid as Secretary and Sophie Schmidt as Vice-Convener of the SIG.

A big thank you to Martin Hinz for serving as Convener since the founding of the SIG (documented in the minutes of 2020-10-06)! I think we all agree that he did a splendid job.

Welcome, Matteo, to the board! We are glad you volunteered and I'm sure you will enrich our SIG in your new position even more.

Our next meeting will take place at the CAA in Vienna, on Wednesday, 1st of April in the evening. Not an April's fools joke! We chose this day, because there is neither the Ice Breaker, nor the Conference Dinner at the same time and it is not the last day of the conference. Please save the date! Details will follow.

Looking forward to a new era with Matteo on board,
a great conference in Vienna
and seeing you all soon,
Sophie
