I’m pleased to announce that registrations are now open for the CMAS International Scientific Diving Course to be held in Faro, Algarve (Portugal) from 19–26 September 2025, hosted by the University of Algarve – Scientific Diving Center in collaboration with CMAS Portugal.
This intensive program combines theory, pool training, and open-water dives at selected coastal and offshore sites in the Algarve known for biodiversity and excellent diving conditions. The course is directed by Prof. Dr. Duarte Duarte and is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to conduct safe and effective underwater scientific research.
In addition to core scientific-diving competencies (survey and sampling techniques, data collection/recording, navigation, risk assessment), the schedule features classroom sessions, confined-water training in Loulé, and reef dives for hands-on practice. A pre-course videoconference is planned for 12 September, and there are additional training sessions on 18–19 September for participants who need to consolidate autonomous-scuba skills.
