LAST WEEK TO APPLY FOR THE MALDIVIAN CORAL REEF RESTORATION WORKSHOP

The University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy, in partnership with Coral Restoration Foundation and Corales de Paz, has previously announced the IV Edition of the "MALDIVIAN CORAL REEF RESTORATION" Workshop, you now have few more days to apply!

In the 2023 version of this intensive 8-day, 80-hour, hands-on, in-water training we will introduce a new nursery type to the toolbox of available nurseries for growing corals underwater in the Maldives, the Coral Tree. The workshop touches on current best practices, appropriate design, logistics and evaluation of a restoration project, and the program will be divided into a series of classroom lessons and field activities. Lessons will be held at the MaRHE Center (www.marhe.unimib.it) Magoodhoo Island, Faafu Atoll, Republic of Maldives.

All field activities will be carried out with SCUBA diving and snorkelling equipment.

Registration deadline is next week: *15 December 2022*

The workshop will be led by Dr. Simone Montano of the University of Milano-Bicocca and by Dr. Phanor H Montoya-Maya (Restoration Program Manager of the Coral Restoration Foundation).

During this training participants will:
- build Coral Tree nurseries
- populate coral nurseries
- maintain and monitor underwater coral nurseries
- out-plant corals onto a degraded reef site
- improve your knowledge on coral identification
- assess and monitor nurseries and sites for coral reef restoration
- understand the best practices for carrying out your own coral reef
restoration project

After completion of the workshop, participants will be provided with a certificate of practice and knowledge on coral reef restoration through the international virtual certification *Open Badge* issued by the University of Milano-Bicocca.
