LOOKING TO HIRE MULTIPLE BENTHIC ECOLOGISTS/MARINE BIOLOGISTS AND MARINE SCIENCE TECHNICIANS IN SOUTH FLORIDA
Dial Cordy and Associates Inc. (DCA) is looking to fill several paid seasonal benthic ecologist/marine biologist and marine science technician positions for the summer and fall seasons. We are looking for candidates who are based in south Florida and are AAUS scientific divers. Primary duties of qualified candidates would be as scientific divers with possibly some data entry/data management duties. Most of the work would be in south Florida, but some domestic travel may be required. Work is weather dependent, but qualified candidates can expect to work a minimum of 30-40 hours per week (max 50 hrs./week), including some weekends.
Qualified candidates will participate in multiple types of benthic surveys in the nearshore environment and assist in data collection efforts (marine science technicians), such as collecting photographic/videographic data, sedimentation depths, water quality samples, while being trained in the primary data collection methodologies, and providing topside support when needed.
Minimum Requirements:
· U.S. Resident (with valid U.S driver’s license) with means of
providing own housing in south Florida.
· Undergraduate degree in marine science, biology, ecology, or
related field, with benthic survey field experience in south Florida and/or Caribbean
· Open Water diver certification from an accredited agency.
· Proof of scientific diver or AAUS certification.
· Candidates must own their own dive gear and provide proof of
purchase or proof of service within the last year.
· Comfortable with diving in low visibility, high current, surge,
and swell conditions.
· Current EFR or CPR/First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Provider
certifications (within the last 2 years), from an accredited agency.
· Current approved dive physical (within 1 year) by an MD or DO
Preferred Skills:
· Advanced open water or rescue diver certifications, and a minimum
of 60 logged dives.
· Current master’s or recently graduated master’s students with
field experience in south Florida and/or Caribbean
· Familiarity with south Florida coral and seagrass species and
other benthic taxa.
· Experience performing routine scientific diving tasks such as
collecting transect and/or quadrat data.
· Small boat handling (< 30ft).
· Experience with GIS/GPS.
