Hi Coaches,

The rules says "Box - Containing all of the kit materials" for events Potions and Posions and crime busters.

Where do we order the kit? Is the kit material mandatory? What should be included in the kit? Please clarify.

Any input is appreciated.

That line item is just the bin or box that your students would use to keep all the materials they're allowed to bring, which is specified on the other lines of that page.
Those are the items they're allowed, but nothing is particularly mandatory. If they don't bring a lab kit with supplies, they won't be able to participate in the lab portion of the event, which can be 40% of the score. Most will get a small bin (bigger than shoebox sized, maybe a 12qt, 16qt or 18qt bin that holds all the lab equipment that is allowed from the list for that event.

The labs can be identifying a substance or performing a lab experiment. You can find possibilities in the rule sheet.

I think Ward's sells a kit that contains most of what can be used between the events, but I found it cheaper and better quality when I source it separately. But I also buy for multiple teams, so it makes sense. But you can find all of this on Amazon.

So, we usually take a tub and get those materials from the science lab in our middle school. We have 2…one for Crime Busters and one that we change if needed for Can’t Judge a Powder or for this year with Potions and Poisons. No need to go purchase a kit, I am sure the school would be happy to lend out those items and keep the kit at school till a tournament or invite.
