Hi everyone,

I thought this might be of interest to our group, because there are always so many questions about climate change at Science Cafe.  Please note that this is in the National Weather Center, and to attend you'll need to be OK'd by security at the front desk.  This means that you'll need to (1) RSVP to me that you're coming, (2) be there about 15 minutes early, and (3) bring a photo ID with you.  If I don't hear back from you, I won't be there to help you get through security and to the seminar.  Note that this isn't a Science Cafe event, but rather an event you might find interesting.

Sean

An integrated interdisciplinary assessment has been undertaken of macroeconomic impacts of climate change over the territory of the Russian Federation until 2030 and beyond. Impacts are discussed of climatic changes on the dynamics and quality indicators of major industrial complexes of the Russian economy, as well as on the regional-scale development of the country. Key trends and measures are analyzed of adaptation to these impacts and mitigation of climate risks. Urgency is justified of adaptation to current climate impacts and to those expected in the short term prospective aimed at reducing vulnerability of the population and industrial objects to the impacts, including the need for developing institutional and legal framework of climate policy. The need and economical efficiency are emphasized of accounting for the climate factor in programs and projects of industries and services sectors modernization in Russia, primarily the use of innovative technologies in the energy sector, as well as in house maintenance, transportation, construction, agriculture and industry. The role is highlighted of science and scientific institutions as key factors of adaptation of the Russian economy and society to climate change.
