Ok, folks - I reserved the back room at Twin Dragon Mongolian Bar-B-
Que, for a meetup at 7:00 PM, Friday, April 11. Reservations are under
my name if you have trouble finding us. The restaurant's on the corner
of 15th and Gambell.

612 E 15th Ave
276-7535

I've been to the place a number of times. They have an average Chinese
buffet, a good Chinese menu, and an awesome Mongolian BBQ. They have
some menu items that will work for anyone who really dislikes Asian
food of any description as well.

Please let me know you are coming - we are really close to the minimum
party size!

I will be there with my daughter, so you can count me for 2 people.  I should probably ask:  is it okay to bring a ten year old?  She can either participate in the discussions or be happy in a corner somewhere with a book and her iPod.

Hi everyone,

We've got five people RSVP'd for Friday, and less than half the
members of the list have bothered to post a yea/nay on whether they
will be there. I'm trying to decide whether to cancel the reservation
for the back room or not. They're expecting ten, we can't reserve a
room with fewer people than that, and we're two days out from the
event. Five of us can just grab one of the big booths and we'll be
happy. If there were three more coming, I'd keep the reservation and
tell the restaurant we had some no-shows. But we might get three more
in the eleventh hour. Or I could just grab a couple of random friends
and bring them along.

What do you advise, folks? I posted an event announcement on my blog
just now, but I have no idea what effect that will have. (Zach, Scott
E - you feel like doing likewise?)

I think if there's just 5, we don't need a room to ourselves. Are we
a rowdy bunch?

My own RSVP is complicated by a personal crisis. My mom is in the
hospital ICU and I am visiting her often. As it stands right now, I
can still come on Friday, but things change fast in an ICU. If her
status changes, I may have to cancel. Right now, things are going
very well and I can visit her on my way back to Wasilla on Friday
night. I'm still planning on coming (and bringing my daughter). If
I do have to cancel, I'll zap you an email so that you know not to
expect me.

Don't push it, is my advice. A booth is fine for five. If more than
five show up, there's always another booth. As the B&N meeting showed,
a larger group tends to form smaller clusters anyway.

I'm keeping the room reservation, then - we've gotten two additional
RSVPs, one maybe, and I'll be bringing a guest. We should be in the
neighborhood regardless of how it works out in the end.

I think my daughter would enjoy meeting a girl her age from a skeptical type family.

Alas, I cannot make Thursday nights before 8pm!  Perhaps we could do one on a weekend sometime before fishing season starts?  I work Saturday days, but could do an evening or anytime on a Sunday.

Sorry for not responding right away.  I can't make it Fridays, and didn't realize it would help you to have the negative tally.  I have a ten year old who is quite the skeptic herself (she has friendly debates with theist peers)  and I'm sure she would have enjoyed the company of Teresa's daughter.  I guess there is always next time. Perhaps a Thursday B&N meeting will work out again.

I hope you all have fun and enjoy the food.

Best regards,
Chris

I'd have to pass on this Sunday for family reasons. My mother is in
the ICU at Mat-Su Regional, and I already feel guilty going to
tonight's meet-up. She is doing well, awake, talking, and my family
tells me to go! go! and that I don't need to spend every waking moment
at the ICU. But Sunday, the plan is to spend the day with mom and/or
go to her house and help my dad with the chores and whatnot.
