Eric's reply:

Hi Bryant,

Sure. Other than our class, I have a meeting from 2:00 until about
3:00 or 3:30. I'll be coming to class, so one option is talking after
class. Also, Bruce mentioned that he will be available in the half
hour after our lecture tomorrow, too.

One thing I can mention now is that our ethical approval is strictly
for observational studies involving humans. Even things as simple as
asking someone to fill out a form is not allowed. This is because any
form or questionnaire needs to be approved before it is used and it's
impossible for us to predict what we will need. Also, getting ethical
approval after topics are decided is impossible because it takes too
long. The only situation where contact is allowed is with taste
tests. We were able to get a general approval for these types of
studies. Anything else needs to be observational.

Don't forget that projects using existing data are allowed as well as
projects involving inanimate objects.

Cheers,
Eric

My response:

Our idea was a taste test for wine, but when we asked Nick he got a
bit trepid because of the involvement of alcohol . We'll talk to you
after class.

Eric:

Ah, yes. That's a tricky one. It definitely couldn't happen on campus
unless someone lives on campus. Alcohol + UBC = very complicated.
Keep in mind that it would also be a fairly expensive course
project...but fun!
Eric
