Virtual Reality in Latin Amarica. Its scope is to serve as a forum
for discussions and dissemination of studies, research projects,
and applications in relevant areas of virtual reality. WRV 2000 will
be held in October 16-18 on the mountains of the Rio Grande do Sul
state (south of Brazil), in the touristic city of Gramado, near Porto
Alegre. Gramado is characterized by the influence of the German

The planned activities for the WRV 2000 include: tutorials, invited
talks, poster exhibition, technical sessions for presentation of
selected papers, and demonstration of virtual reality devices and
applications.

· Virtual reality distributed systems;
· Virtual humans and avatars;
· Augmented reality;
· Real-time graphics techniques;
· Multi-resolution modeling and rendering;
· Hardware graphics acceleration;
· Virtual reality for scientific visualization;
· Innovative 3D input and output devices;
· 3D human computer interaction;
· Internet-based 3D applications;
· Networked virtual environments;
· VRML and Shout 3D;
· VR systems development;
· Tele-collaboration and teleoperation;
· Real-time simulation, animation and visualization;
· Artificial life;
· CVE (Collaborative Virtual Environments);
· VR applications in entertainment, architecture, education, medicine,
industry, e-commerce, marketing, etc.;

the methodology used, the results obtained, and a brief comparison with
other similar applications, if it is the case. The paper should'nt be a
survey.
· TECHNICAL POSTERS, presented in a special session and published in the
Proceedings as 2-page papers. Technical posters could be technical on
going work without final results or descriptions of experiences on using
virtual reality techniques to solve specific problems with or without
scientific contribution. In this kind of contribution, the authors shoud
briefly describe the experience or the product developed and, if
possible, which are the users and the results of the application on
these users.
· TUTORIALS, about classical or timely topics, at advanced or elementary
level. Tutorials proposals will be evaluated for relevance to the area
and the lecturers' qualification. For tutorials submission, it will be
used the same rules applied by the SIBGRAPI 2000 tutorials committee
(http://www.sbc.org.br/sibgrapi/tutorial-e.html).

The papers will be reviewed by researchers and practitioners from
virtual reality area. All accepted papers will be presented at the
technical sessions and published in the Proceedings of the Workshop. The
authors of the best full papers in English will be invited to submit a
revised and extended version to be published at a special issue of the
journal "Revista de Informática Teórica e Aplicada" (RITA), which is
edited by the Informatics Institute of the Federal University of Rio
Grande to Sul (UFRGS).
Contributions should be eletronically sent by e-mail. The message body
