Star Wars! New Biden-era space policy will focus on defending the
US and its interstellar infrastructure from 'counterspace threats'
as well as orbital climate change monitoring and pushing for a
cosmic private sector

It was the Greatest Ruse Ever when Reagan intimidated
the USSR with his "Star Wars" program - trying to match
imaginary US tech drove them broke.
But NOW it's all for REAL. The tech has caught up with
the vision - and space conflicts are at the point of
becoming very real.
We DEPEND on satellites now to an extreme degree. From
communications - individual, military, govt, financial -
to military surveillance and GPS our modern world hinges
on satellite tech. Terrestrial alternatives have withered,
hard lines, microwave relays, tropospheric reflection,
because satellites are just so much easier and SEEMED
invulnerable.
Alas the tech to easily DESTROY satellites has now
arrived. Both China and the Russians have demonstrated
their ability to intercept and smash satellites. It is
rumored that the USA has skill with lasers and high
powered microwave beams and could disable sats in
those ways (and hell YES doubters, a strong microwave
beam will short the fuck out of satellites and a laser
will do a job on optical sensors too).
All that's needed now is some incident, some excuse,
for nations to DO so. There are several possible
scenarios playing out on the ground right now. Any
messing with strategic space assets though, that may
lead to outright war - the one no one wins. Our
dependence on space tech is a serious vulnerability.
