Space wars? NASA and China are eyeing some of the SAME
landing sites near the moon's south pole as the rivals
may compete for limited lunar resources in coming years
China and America have identified overlapping locations
for landing sites near the moon's south pole
The Wolf Amendment prevents NASA from using funds to
engage in bilateral cooperation with China in space
without approval from Congress and the FBI
. . .
Wolf isn't the real problem here - it's that China
WILL occupy and develop those sites whether NASA
cooperates or not.
China can easily land "preliminary resources for
research sites" in a couple of the best locations
and thus stake a sort of claim. In theory the USA
or EU could do the same - but they're afraid to
challenge China lest their supplies (and kickbacks)
get cut off.
So ... figure it will be a Red Moon rising Real
Soon Now.
Hey ... China could orbit a probe at very low
altitude and drop red retroflective glitter dust,
effectively dot-matrix printing a big red star on
the lunar surface. Ought to be spectacular around
the time of the full moon :-)
Oh well, sit back, sip a 7+, and don't worry
about it ...
