The current tech is NOT up to snuff alas. Musk
can't get his giant rocket to work and the
co-contributors keep having problems too. It's
not just a matter of money either - They just
can't get it all in focus - enough to prevent
Certain Doom anyhow.
The Apollo missions were at the bleeding edge
of doom too - but there was a big POLITICAL
motive involved there ... so doom was ignored.
Can't DO that now. HAS to work perfectly
every time.
The future missions are much more ambitious,
more complicated things to do. That means
more complication at every level. Just a
brief landing and flag-planting is no
longer enough.

of the project after 2024. The ISS is mostly Russian technology.
