The LA Times has heard that Roger Boisjoly has died:

"Boisjoly, 73, died of cancer Jan. 6 in Nephi, Utah, though news of his
passing was known only in the southwest Utah community where he retired."

A good man caught up in a bad situation.
That goes for Arnold Thompson too.

...And there was *much* rejoicing. Not to look a gift idiot down the
cranial singularity, but do you think it's possible the pathetic old
bastard finally died?

I don't know. All I know is the Maxsons haven't been seen for years.
Mind you, I haven't missed them either.

...Neither have I. About the only things I find relating to him on a
quick google search are some bullshit posts on some forum called
"ABEbooks" hawking "collector's editions" of that collated and stapled
pile of used toilet paper he claimed was an "expose" on Challenger's
demise - remember the "crossing the streams" theories he used to vomit
on the group so his psychotic son(s) could rush to his defense when we
tore them apart with just a post or two? - and a few forums that
contain buffers and repostings of ancient posts off of here
and .shuttle, most of which are just PoppaMax's blatherings with none
of the quotes or other posts from the ss* regulars at the time to
explain just what the feeble old bastard is mumbling/whining/flaming/
slandering about. From what I can tell, even the site he set up to
sucker idiots and CT Nutters into buying his worthless excuse for a
book has gone offline, but IIRC that was reported about a year before
I got "Stumpy", by Pat during one of those "where is the old bastard
now?" threads.

...In a way, it's sort of a shame. With Columbia's 10th anniversary
coming up, it might be nice to put the Challenger CT Nutter theories
to bed once and for all by getting someone like Dale Myers to do what
he did with the Dealey Plaza Turkey Shoot and, using what's
essentially known as "Doing a Quake II Map" show that all of Maxson's
bullshit theories about the SRBs were just that - pure, complete and
totally utter bullshit. Might be a bit late, but it would still be fun
to put the final nail in Maxson's coffin while *some* of us are still
alive to relish the victory who had to put up with the battle when the
idiots first arrived here.

...Hell, I still remember when Paul "Hire-A-Pig" Maxson filed those
fake charges of "bullying" on me with that so-called "watchdog" group
- what was it? WOAH? WHOA? - only to find that after getting off their
soapbox long enough to look at the -facts- they'd found they'd been
had, and wound up having to reassess their tactics for future attempts
to stop *real* Internet bullies. As it was, they cost a few ISPs some
of the regulars here were using some business because their own admins
didn't stop to check to see just how amateur and pseudo-legit WHOA was
before shutting off usenet access without warning. In my case, it cost
CCSI about $7000.00 USD in hosting fees as I took all of my business
accounts over to IO, which didn't help those guys at all when 9/11
came along and most of their clients dropped them when it became
apparent that the owners were Iraqis, and they wound up going out of
business. But that's another story for another time, although the
lesson is pretty valid in that where issues of internet censorship are
concerned, one should *never* jump when someone yells "FROG!", because
you may never be able to stop that frog from singing even if you brick
him up in a wall :P :P :P

> Mind you, I haven't missed them either.

...Neither have I. However, since I sort of came back "out of
retirement" - I'd have done it sooner, but medical issues combined
with my still getting over the shock of Pat's passing sort of making
this place no longer feeling like "home" anymore kept me away longer
than I wished - I've noted that some of the usual trolling trash still
festers around ssh like a case of herpes simplex II. Bbo Hallr and ~CT
posted today, and since I'm using Google Groups instead of a dedicated
USP and reader, the lack of filtering shows that after almost two
decades Tony Lance is *still* trying to push his Big Bullshit machine
- even offering to name a part after Pat if I read through one
trolling correctly - and to cap it all off, Brad Guth *STILL* refuses
to die and put himself out of our misery.

...And the sad thing about it all? From what I've been told by the few
regulars that inhabit there, NSF's "L2" elite boards were reportedly
set up to keep the ss* trolling trash out of their discussions so they
could have the same fun, intelligent discussions on space history that
we had here, even when Dwayne was being his egotistical jerkwad of a
self - and believe you me, I've heard some *new* ones of late on how
much of said he's grown over the years! However, from what I've been
able to follow via this guest account an admin friend over there set
up for me to compensate for how Dwayne, "Charlie X Murphy" and the
dorks providing the "console feeds" from NASA that NSF was illegally
reselling through their L2 subscription fees - they threatened to pull
the feeds if I wasn't permanently banned from NSF the day I showed up
and introduced myself, of all things - L2 is nothing more than all the
dipshits on .policy behaving just as they did for the quarter-
century .policy has been a total clusterfuck. Rather than discuss
history, they're more content to divide into two groups - one for Ares/
Constellation, the other for whatever they're calling the current
booster program under the Obama Misadministration - and flaming each
other so lamely that it makes the decade-plus of the Chumpko-McCall
married squabbles look like "Ward? I'm worried about Wally and the
Beaver." "I'll talk to them, dear."

...And to be honest, it's almost enough to make me want to set up a
space history forum of my own, but I did my turn in the barrel
moderating forums, mailing lists, and sysopping one of the longest-
running BBS' in CenTex, and even with today's web forum packages the
amount of time dealing with spambots autoposting really lame Russian
Pr0n Spam just takes too much time away from the fun of all the
history discussions. I mean, if the pr0n was actually -decent- and at
the very least *entertaining*, maybe it wouldn't be such a
hassle...but I digress.

...Anyway, besides you and me, who else is still alive out there? I've
come across some of our old hands on Facebook, some of whom weren't
aware most of the others had also left and migrated to the "social
media" ghettos. For that matter, has anyone got an update on Beady or
Mary of late? I saw the requote from Henry regarding trying to get the
guys at SpaceX to name *something* after Pat, so at least he's still
alive out there even if he won't be *on* usenet when they finally pull
the plug some decades from now. But who's left? Might be a time for a
roll call, although I'm almost scared to see the results; sort of like
how the Pearl Harbor survivors are ceasing their reunions on the
grounds that seeing their numbers dwindle so fast each year is getting
too damn painful. Can't say I blame them :(

I admit it's been pretty lonely on these forums this past couple of
years, but technology changes and so do methods of communication.
