Quotemining again? Never learn, do you? Perhaps the full
quote, including context showing that he was referring to
the church's stand against tyranny and *not* anything to do
with religious belief, would be of interest:

that they had always boasted of their devotion to the cause
of truth; but, no, the universities immediately were
