If these are the same NRC postdoctoral fellowships as I've just
applied for, then ** certain research areas ** are restricted to
US citizens, but the selection process itself is supposed to be done
without reference to sex, ethnicity or nationality.

The 1997 National Research Council Post-Doctoral Research
Program books have just come out. These describe projects
available for funding at both campuses of NIST (Gaithersburg, MD,
25 miles NW of DC, and Boulder, CO, 25 mi. N of Denver) in the areas
of chemistry, physics, materials, electronics, computers, etc.
Candidates write applications which undergo internal and external

review, and awards are competitive. Last year the ratio was
roughly 4 applications per award. Open to ** US CITIZENS ONLY **,
salary is $45.5K with full US Govt benefits and relocation.
Term is 2 years. This is by far the main path for career
placement within NIST.

to plan the project.

Now for MY plug :^)

I have a project available in the mechanical properties and
structure/property relationships of nanolayered and microlayered
materials. All materials (metal, ceramic, intermetallic) are
being studied and are of interest. Excellent processing and
characterization facilities are available, as are oppotunities
for external interaction, publishing, and conference presentations.
Contact me for more details.

This program is only for those who has a good connections at NIST.
Unfortunately, this Fellowship program is a victim of high level
internal politics.

NRC suppose to be a true scholar organization but the NRC
Associateship offered SUCKS.
