ARDPID : Architettura distribuita per la pianificazione dinamica delle
azioni di un robot mobile reale dotato di multisensorialità.
(ARDPID : Distributed Architecture for Dynamic Action Planning for a
Multisensor Mobile
Robot.)
Supervisor : Prof. Marco Somalvico, Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
1993-1996 Ph.D. student in Industrial Electronics and Computer Science -
Dipartimento di
Elettronica e Informatica - Università degli Studi di Padova. The
final examination is
expected to take place in November 1997.
Dissertation title :
A Model of the Robot-Environment Interaction for Autonomous Robots
Endowed with an
Uninterpreted Sensory-Motor Apparatus.
Supervisor : Prof. Enrico Pagello, University of Padova, Italy.
AFFILIATIONS

Politecnico di Milano (PM-
AI&R Project).
1992- Co-coordinator of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
Laboratory of the Politecnico di
Milano.
MEMBERSHIPS
1995- Member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
1995- Member of the IEEE System, Man and Cybernetics Society.
1995- Member of AI*IA (Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence).
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Areas of interest: Autonomous Robotics - Mobile Robotics
1992 - 1995 Path planning algorithms for mobile robot based on the
following approaches :
artificial potential fields, free-ways and multi-resolution
representation (quadtree
representation of the free-space).
1992 - 1995 Development of real autonomous agents through machine
learning techniques based
on evolutionary algorithm. The training is based on supervised
reinforcement
learning (learning classifier systems).
1992 - Blackboard based distributed control architectures for
autonomous mobile robots for
both simulation and control of a real robot.
1992 - Mobile robot self-localization based on optimal sensor
exploration accomplished by a
laser range finder. The algorithm chooses the exploration leading to
the optimal
uncertainty reduction of the a posterior robot location estimate both
in polygonal and
in curvilinear environments.
1993 - Autonomous map learning for a mobile robot endowed an
uninterpreted sensory-
motor apparatus. The approach is based on the computation of the
perceptual
equivalence classes and sensory-motor relation induced by the
robot-environment
interaction. A multi-level representation of the robot-environment
interaction is used
to obtain a model of the world based on a Partially Observable Markov
Decision
Process.
1995 - Statistical characterization of the odometric uncertainty. The
developed algorithm
allows to obtain an estimate of the expected odometric error and
associated
uncertainty for any arbitrary robot trajectory using a non stationary
error model.
