You don't owe Kamal Prasad anything!
Me, ...again!
Kamal has been arguing for years about the question: "Does your employer
owe you a job?" and his answer is: "No."
He argues for a lot of other views such as:
US monetary policy is wrong
US standard of living is too high
Etc.
(and he argues all this without considering the rest of the first world
[i.e. Japan, Europe, Canada, Oz, etc)
You don't owe Kamal ANY kind of agreement with his biased ideas of how the
world should work.
The majority of history shows that the world worked under a distribution
of power such that only small numbers of people had priviledges (eg.
kings/emperors/priests/chiefs/pharos) AND everyone else was an underling
with less or no priviledges.
Before these bureaucrasies came into existence, nobody owned anything and
nobody owed anyone else anything. To eat, you needed to hunt or harvest.
To keep dry in the rain, you needed a tent. Even if you like that life, it
might be very hard to live it today because most land is owned by someone
or controled by an entity. At least you can breath air for free, and can
usually find free water at a public drinking fountain (or go to a park
where there is a pond and bring a cup with you).
Now lets look at that society (any group of people who interact socially,
including constructive processes like building things and destructive
things like crime). Yeah, you owe society a standard of behavior, and
society owes you a standard of behavior, too. You pay your taxes, and you
get police protection, schools, highways, etc. And, you get (in a
democracy) some choice over how you will be governed. And, in a liberal
democracy, you also get (you are _owed_ these things) political rights
(freedoms, constitutions) and economic rights (Medicare, Medicaid, SS, UE,
etc), and society _owes_ you these things. All the time, whether you are
emloyed or not.
Corporations are dictatorships with kings/emperors at the top, and they
get priviledges way out of proportion to what they contribute. Why they
get paid magical compensation packages but cannot perform magic when times
are bad without laying off (or sacrificing) employees is a problem not
enough people are asking. Why is it that these kings/emperors feel they
are owed special priviledges but underlings can be flushed like toilet
paper and no one owes them anything?
The concept of human rights, in its various forms and extents, became more
clear in the 1800s as voting was made more universal, economic programs
started, civil rights, woman's suffrage, labor law developed and is still
developing.
So why does Kamal Prasad still think the world needs to stay in medieval
dark ages where only kings and emperors get anything they want, and
everyone else gets trickle-down?
