The sixth "Toward a Science of Consciousness" conference will be held
at the Tucson Convention Center in Tucson, Arizona, on April 7-11,
2004. This conference will mark the tenth anniversary of the landmark
Tucson consciousness conference in 1994.

PLENARY PROGRAM
Plenary speakers will include Ned Block, Daniel Dennett, Jeffrey Gray,
Terry Horgan, Christof Koch, Victor Lamme, David Leopold, Alva Noe,
Roger Penrose, Steven Pinker, Ronald Rensink, Alexander Shulgin,
Zoltan Torey, Daniel Wegner, and many others.
Plenary sessions will include:
Is the Conscious Will an Illusion?
Is there Awareness outside Attention?
How do Hallucinogens Affect Consciousness?
Neural Plasticity and Synesthesia
Pathways of Visual Consciousness
Ethics and the Brain
Visual Imagery without Visual Experience
and others.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
Submissions are invited from researchers in philosophy, neuroscience,
psychology, cognitive science, physics, phenomenology, anthropology,
and other disciplines engaged in the study of consciousness.
Accepted submissions will be presented in concurrent oral sessions
(20-minute talks plus a 5-minute discussion period) or in poster
sessions (3 hours).
Submissions must include an abstract of up to 500 words. Abstracts
should be submitted online at:

The submission deadline is NOVEMBER 1, 2003.
SCHEDULE
Pre-conference workshops will be held on Tuesday April 6 and on the
morning of Wednesday April 7. The main program will start at 2pm on
Wednesday April 7 and will run through 4:30pm on Sunday April 11.
CONFERENCE EVENTS
As in previous years, there will be a conference banquet at the
Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, a poetry slam, and an end-of-conference
party, among other events.
AWARD FOR BEST STUDENT PAPER
There will be a $250 award for the best student paper. To be
eligible, you must be a a full-time student and be sole author of your
paper. Full papers should be submitted to cen...@email.arizona.edu by
March 1, 2004.
AWARD FOR BEST POSTER PRESENTATION
Presentations delivered as posters will be eligible for an award of
$250.00. Posters will be judged on the basis of their content and
visual quality. The award will be made to the presenting author.
REGISTRATION FEES
The deadline for early registration is February 1, 2004. Note that
registration fees have been significantly lowered from previous years.
