The high pressure method was by ICI back in early 1930s.
Check at EPO-search key words polymer and ethylene and ICI and find
earliest GB patent. Alternatively search Google on history of
polymers/plastics.

Somewhat facetious but should have noted the UK header. Google for
polyethylene inventor will probably yield better results.

Polyethylene was discovered in the Winnington research labs of ICI by
Fawcett & Gibson in 1933. For an authorative book on the First Century
of Plastics, then Kaufman's 1962 book with this title has not been
bettered.
For polyethylene history refs. see
Perrin, M.W., 'Research' 1953,6,111
Swallow, J.C. 'Chem & Ind' 1959, 1368
Hunter, E. 'Advancement of Science' July 1961, 171
Swallow, J.C., 'Trans. PI', Febreuary 1963

If you have difficulties locating these papers or Kaufman's book, mail
me !!

I was being somewhat facetious but I had never heard of polyethylene being
called polythene. Maybe it's an English thing but the English usually have
more letters in their words. DuPont was also making the low density stuff
prior to invention of Ziegler-Natta catalyst. Even inventorship of high
density PE is clouded. Industry is based on making money, not gaining
notoriety ;)

Polythene is/was ICI's trade name for the polymer they invented, chemical
name polyethylene.

Are you suggesting I'm racially biased? Great Britain was one of the
key chemical nations (second to Germany, probably) back then.
If you are implying that the US invented then look to where the
inventor originated-I'd bet not US. US "imported" a load of scientists
from Germany and the rest of Europe. Anyhow do a proper lit search and
you may find the answer. What header are you Frank Logullo?
