Hello,

I'm stuck with the problem of finding a definition
for `poly-olefine'. Are they a family of compounds ?

Are PS, PE, PET, PVC, etc, poly-olefines ???

(the word appears once in the FAQ, yet no definition of it is given there.)

Thank you in advance.

(Good book references on the subject would be helpful as well.)

(E-mail answers prefered, I'll summarise if requested.)

The definition of polyolefines is only for polymers build up by carbon and
hydrogen;but sometimes so-called modified polyolefines are also possible.
The latter are grafted by different chemicals (maleic anhydride, esters etc)
to improve different properties.

In article <3bjtdr$jut$1...@mhadf.production.compuserve.com>,
Beyer,Hans-Guenter <10044...@CompuServe.COM> writes:

Olefins = alkene, single double bond hydrocarbon.
Poly-olefin = polymerized olefin.

The term also encompases copolymers of olefins and most anything else.
