(of course the answer is green cheese glows red under blue light)

The moon appears reddish close to the horizon (more in the warmer months)
for the same reason that the sun appears reddish close to the horizon.

From Google search "why is the sunset not as red in the winter time"

"Aerosols attract water vapor and enlarge, essentially filtering the light we see in the sky and scattering it. But in the winter when the air is colder and dryer, there are less of these color-filtering aerosols in the air, meaning we see colors in all their intensity"

sun - white light
earth - white light filtered to blueish light
moon - blueish lights's green is absorbed by the surface and reflects
red back to earth.

moon surface absorbs the green, leaving red

right, it gets filtered by the atmosphere

if overhead, it is filtered by 1 airmass,
if on the horizon it gets filtered by 15 air masses, and a lot of the
latter is denser air closer to the ground

When the moon is eclipsed by the earth,
the Earth's atmosphere absorbs blue-green light,

The Earth is blue diffraction. So why the red?
Because of the shadow there should be dark
inside the disc.

So far your explanation does not show how red diffraction comes from
blue that contains no red. An eclipse is a shadow so part of
the disc needs to be dark... the diffraction of the Earth atmosphere
would be circular surrounding a shadow disc and should not be red...
