This is my first post to s.p.r!

I hope that you all share my feeling of optimism that some highly productive
physics discussions can flourish in this new environment under the gentle
tutelage of our friends JB, Bill, Dale, and Lee. (No, I did not include
this seemingly gratuitous comment just to insure that my very first post
glides smoothly past the moderators - but every little bit helps...)

This note is an attempt to capitalize on your renewed sense of community,
and thereby enlist you in the exciting job on upgrading the FAQ List. The
consensus which emerged during the discussion of the new group is that
the FAQ should be serious extended to address a number of topics which
repeatedly occupy the attentions of the sci.physics crowd.

So far, I have corrupted... um, I mean 'coerced', um... make that 'enlisted'
only one brave soul - one Matt McIrvin, who has agreed to summarize
some of the recent discussions on "Black Holes". I, myself, have tackled the
easier topic of "Below Absolute Zero - Negative Temperatures." But
there are many more exciting subjects which have been sorely neglected
by the cognoscenti. So I emplore you, Mr. or Ms. Congoscentus, to step
bravely forward to volunteer for one of the following dangerous missions:

Virtual Particles
EPR and Bell's Inequality
Interpretations of QM
The Speed of Gravity
Perpetual Motion and the Second Law

Some of these topics may require multiple entries when fully treated. There
are surely other ideas out there for useful FAQ articles. The ones listed
above are just a few that I have thought of off the top of my head.

Please, Please, Please... consider volunteering to tackle the topic
of your choice. You needn't feel that your effort must produce a
magnum opus, the ultimate statement. We can always update and refine
any FAQ article as time permits. And there are no strict time limits
on your work should you volunteer. Work at your leisure.

Contact me at SIC...@csa2.lbl.gov if you are interested in volunteering,
or if you have any additional FAQ topic suggestions for me to add to the
list.

-Scott

Post Script: I am especially gratified that the FAQ contains contributions
from such a wide variety of sci.physics regulars. If you are a sci.physics
"wheel" and have not yet made a contribution, then this post is directed
particularly at you. Step up to the plate and take your best shot. Thanks.
