I don't see why Einstein gets the glory and the credit for changing
twentieth century science, and got to get greeted at airports by
dignitaries, and got paid for just walking around in Princeton NJ from
a nice house to a nice office and THINKING. Hell, *I* can do THAT!! He
couldn't even keep his socks straight, and we're supposed to believe
what he has to say, even if it makes no sense? Is having wild hair and
a big nose all that's required? If his stuff is so all-fired important,
then it should be understandable by anyone. Hell, *I* can write a
theory that involves no math at all, and is completely understandable
by anyone, and my theory will sound at least as important as his
theory! I expect an advance on a royalty and a written promise that I
will be greeted by at least one dignitary when I accept my appointment
at an Ivy league university to live the rest of my days in comfortable
comfort. Everyone knows it's the engineers who do all the work, not the
scientists. The scientists just dream crazy stuff up, and then
engineers have the job of figuring out which of it is usable at all and
putting it to work. But does anybody swoon when Homer Buttflame,
engineering wunderkind, goes on the lecture circuit?? Nooooo! They all
swoon and sigh when it's Brian F-ing GREEEEENE though, don't they? No
glory for engineers thank you, only for those who open their mouths and
don't make any sense! Well, I've got a plan. This can NOT be that hard!
How much work is it to catch up with a few books to learn what is
currently known? How hard can it be to just take it to the next level
with just a little creative thinking and some Einstein-style gedinker
experiments? Hell, I've got time. I'm retired! All the time in the
world! And I can mismatch socks and neglect to comb my hair like the
best of them. A book! I'll publish a BOOK! I'll be rich!

Hah, this thread has basically came about beasuse me and PD had a
disagreement as to whether charge is more fundamental than current. My
answer to that was that charge is obviously more fundamental as you
can't have a flow of charge without a charge, but you can have a charge
without a flow of charge. That led PD to throw a wobbler about the
nature of fundamentality and to ask a series of questions, some of
which I could answer, and some I could not. Instead of responding to my
last reply he decided to write this thread instead.

And look at that, he says I'm deteriorating. I best get to a doctor
quickly.
But even worse, he lumps me in the same list as Porat.

I don't recall the thread but please be aware that the idea of classical
point charges is problematical - it leads to all sorts of problems such as
infinite fields and acasual runaway solutions. The answer actually lies in
QM and believe it or not current comes from that more naturally than point
charges.

Phuckwit Duck is an incompetent cunt and a troll.
He's been peeved for years, ever since he said:

" I have to admit that I am demoralized at the moment.

I had hoped that we could fight ignorance with a proactive rather
than a reactive approach, but this is clearly the improper forum for
that. A quick survey of the length of threads initiated by or
drifting
to nonsense compared to the length of threads based on sound thinking
reveals the true interest in the proposal.

While it would be a useful project to contribute to the FAQ, the
intent was to educate in the context of discussion, a virtual
"classroom" if you will. There's no point in contributing to a
reference that none of the "students" will read or attempt to learn
from. The intention was to focus on *exactly* what is wrong in
someone's thinking (which varies from person to person), set it
straight, and then make progress from there.

I had high hopes -- really -- that perhaps one misguided soul would
read something sensible and say, "Oh... Really?...Oh. I see I was
confused. OK, I get it now. Now what about...?" My head knew better,
my heart does not.

[sitting in the duck blind, waiting with a shotgun for a duck to
appear] "

As you can see, the thread has drifted into nonsense. To
Phuckwit Duck, "sound thinking" means his way or the highway.
Aint no way HE is ever going to say "Oh... Really?...Oh. I see I was
confused. OK, I get it now. Now what about...?"
He's the typical bigot and a lying cunt too. Let his heart hurt, who gives
a fuck about his lousy emotions?
Androcles.

Nonsense. I just poke at them if they say something stupid. They exit,
stage left, on their own when they realize they're not having the fun
they expected they would have. No one has the power to boot someone out

It's too bad that was your goal. Only a pyrrhic victory there.

PD

It's not my goal. It's an observation.

However, in many of these cases, I think it's worthwhile -- maybe it's
just me -- to root out *exactly* what the underlying issue is when
someone rants about relativity and Einstein. Since in many cases it's
not really about the science at all (evidenced by a profound
disinterest in actually doing or learning science), it seems to be
motivated by something else entirely. In such cases, discussing the
physics is pointless except to show that what they are doing is not
science at all but just pretending like science. Once that is exposed,
the obvious question is, "So why would you want to just *pretend* to do
science, rather than really do science? What's the point?" When that
question is heard and understood, that is sometimes the moment a crank
disappears, at least for a while. I'd hope that it's not because
they've been embarassed or shamed, but instead because they realize
that they're just wasting their own valuable time putting on a little
puppet show that no one cares about.

Go for it.

All Einstein wanted to accomplish with his 1905 SR paper was to revamp
electrodynamics to be consistent with the PoR and thereby to
deconstruct the mechanical ether of Lorentz, which he felt violated the
spirit of the PoR. That much is unremarkable. But in that effort to
realize that humble goal, he found that time could not be defined
absolutely -- and that is remarkable, but not to Einstein, since he was
only interested in simplicity and not philosophy per se. It's only the
sellers of relativity that make a big deal out of relative time.

Newton dreamed up some crazy stuff too. Like action-at-a-distance.

Which engineers should get glory in the public arena?

Retirees are the bane of this NG.

Give up on physics and take a very long, well-deserved vacation. You've
earned it!
