First, it functions as Charles S. Cagle’s thinks and not because we heat and compress the fuel! This is true, and with this knowledge it is possible to trace and tell the real story of how the H-bomb actually came about.

First, at Los Alamos, during the war, they want to build a fusion bomb parallel to the A-bomb. After some false leads, they think of heating and compressing the fuel. Teller or someone comes up with the idea that you should heat the fuel with X-rays with a wavelength approximately as large as a D2 molecule. They fire soft X-rays from a powerful source against D2 gas or liquid D2 or DT, perhaps. They detect a little fusion. If they try gamma rays or hard X-rays nothing happens. So, somehow soft X-rays make the reaction go.

So, they think like this. Let’s try hideous amounts of soft X-rays against liquid deuterium and see what happens. How do you make soft X-rays in an A-bomb? Someone comes up with the idea to “filter” the hard X-rays through an electron rich plasma and let Compton scattering reduce the wavelength of the gamma rays and hard X-rays. Simulations and calculations follow. A plate of Uranium or lead about 15 centimetres thick should do the trick. The plate is immediately, when the trigger A-bomb explodes, heated to millions of degrees and is then a ‘soup’ of electrons and nuclei. Then it is transparent to the soft X-rays created inside it. And the very many electrons make the Compton scattering effective. In comes gamma rays and out comes soft X-rays.

When those soft X-rays fall on the fuel, liquid deuterium or lithium deuteride they make the bomb go boom! More details on Cagle’s homepage. It's down now, but you may be able to find it through some archive for deleted web-pages.

It worked on the Mike shot and Castle Bravo. The secret of the H-bomb was then probably shared with the British and they in turn shared it with the French (see The incredible story of the French H-bomb at http://pbillaud.fr/html/h1a.html) where Pierre Billaud writes about how Sir William Cook came to visit from Aldermaston, apparently with crucial information.

The French, most likely, shared it with the Israelis. The Russians acquired it through Klaus Fuchs or other sources. Actually, there are very few secrets to an H-bomb. All that is needed are the basic ideas outlined above.

China got it through espionage and India, Pakistan, Iran and North Korea may pick it up through this posting…

Cheers,

Sven

P.S. Of course, it is a bad thing to spread knowledge on WMD. So, if you ridicule this post and attempt to make it seem like the most imbecile rubbish ever written, you actually make the world a safer place!
