I understand that the Amish treat their horses like slavs

Do you think that *everybody* used to think this way about
animals back in the olden days when they were needed for work?
And with the industrial revolution this changed, but since the
Amish are still living in the past (in some respects, granted
they're very hypocritical and skirt their own laws with
semantics) they haven't "advanced" into the 21st century?

It is my prediction that within the next hundred years, with
animal rights, etc. (eg some lawyers actually starting to
practice this branch of law) that the natural progression will
be that humans can't "use" animals for anything at all, and
eating meat will be considered a totally barbaric practice,
that people will gasp at.

As for the authorities, ) I
think the Amish are exempt from the laws by having a specific
designation like a "religious sect" or something, like they
don't have to abide by the schooling requirements etc. I think
they can enlighten themselves a little. It's not okay to use
machines, but it's okay to torture another living being? I
don't think it says that anywhere in any Bible.

Not literally, it's implied
