I am looking for some high quality concave diffraction gratings for
vis color spectraphotometer system and looking for a manufacturer that
can do custom grating designs. The system is going to be used in rough
environment. I looked arround, I found

http://www.jobinyvon.com
http://gratinglabs.com
http://www.gratingworks.com

We need a lot of engineering cooperation at the beginning. Would
anyone gave a recommendation?

thanks

I have used both JobinYvon and Richardson Grating Lab for high quality
custom gratings (holographic concave and flats). I don't know the
quantities that you would be buying but the grating lab has a lower cost per
piece but their developement costs tend to be higher. The JobinYvon
gratings tend to be more $$ per part but the developement costs are a bit
lower. The bottom line is that I would recommend either of the two vendors.

Try www.headwallphotonics.com.

You mean there is a upfront design fee? Wonder if they offer free
design and samples?

They MIGHT!! but my experience is that they usually will not wave a custom
grating design fee. You may get a sample grating but chances are it will
not be near the parameters that you are looking for.

Another route would be to look for 'standard' products from the vendors.
There is quite a large selection to select from with the two vendors I
previously mentioned.

Free design and samples on custom holographic gratings is not common
in my experience. The companies that have been mentioned in this
discussion usually charge thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars
for design and NRE and hundreds of dollars each for gratings. If you
are thinking of using a custom grating, you had better have an
application that will use large volumes of gratings in order to
justify the investment.
