I curious how to properly pronounce "Melles Griot". This doesn't seem to
be answered on their Web page.

I don't think the "s" in "Melles" is pronounced at all.

I think it's closer to "mel gree-o"

That's how I've always pronounced it too. But I seem to remember
calling them once and the receptionist answered by saying "MEL-lis
GREE-oh". That was 4 or 5 years ago, so the best way to find out would
be to call them and then listen carefully.

That being said, I think Ioannis has correctly given how the French
would pronounce it.

Being French, you need to know what letters to drop in order to pronounce it
right. I sometimes say mel roy when I'm having fun. Otherwise it is mel-ss
ge-roy.

"mellis.... gree-oh"

Jan Melles
Richard Griot

Knew 'em both. That's how they pronounced their names.

And confirmed by a VP at Melles Griot:

"MEL-liss (not Mel's) -- and emphasis on the first syllable.
GREE-o -- emphasis on the first syllable."

I mostly hear it pronounced : Mellez Grio, The s sounding like a z to
me and the t being silent.

I'm reminded of my brother, who was allowed to use a computer language
for his foreign language requirement in grad school.

Hi Mark: Melles is a Dutch family (last name). You may want to pronounce it appropriately. Griot should be of French orig, though.See http://optics.org/article/11296.
