I have some old eye glasses that I want to turn into sunglasses. I
have figured if you take some dark plastic film and cover the lenses
you will have a pair of sunglasses! No this will probably not work,
but your'e not sure until you tried! Is there somewhere you can buy
transparent dark plastic film that has glue on one side like a bumper
sticker or something?

Thanks in advance for any relevant reply!

Don't reply via e-mail. It doesn't work!

Some people cover their car windows from the inside with a dark foil. So you
could get this stuff at some car equipment shop. It sticks on the glass only
by adhesion, without any glue. Maybe cou have to protect the edges of the
film to prevent it from peeling off.

The car window tinters have that stuff. You will have problems curving that
stuff onto your eyeglasses tho.

Because most tapes don't apply well to compound curves, this might
create a problem unless it is a stretchy film.

You might consider transparent paints. There are model paints at hobby
shops for creating the 'candy apple' car finishes that come in spray
cans. If you can find a green or orange one, that should work. Don't
apply the undercoat, just spray with the transparent color.

If you wanted to use the sticky film idea I believe my father bought
some earlier at the home depot. There may be some there which are
stretchy enough. There is one other main problem with buying a film
though (other than the stretchiness issue), one can only buy and
entire roll of the stuff. An alternative is to go to an auto glass
repair store like the ones were you get windshields replaced. They
are probably going to have some scraps lying around and they might be
willing to give them to you, but at the very least they could sell you
just what you needed. In addition they may be able to give you a film
which is slightly stretcher than the others. One more thing about the
films, be sure if you do manage to put it on you glasses that you
don't wash them with any type of ammonia solution (i.e. Windex ect.)
because it will destroy the glue on the film.
