I'm trying to experiment on an inexpensive fiber optic transmission
system for video images. The distance is up to 500M. I guess
a LED is better than a LD because LED's linear response and low cost.
Can anyone recommend which LED and photoreceiver I should use?
Any driver IC for the LED which simply takes the signal from the
video camera without the need of complicated circuit?
How about receiver IC (or amplifier)? Any standard packaged
product for, say cable TV or CATV, applications?

Fiber optic video links abound. I don't know what the guts
look like but the TX end, I would guess, is pretty simple
based on the size I've seen.

Here are a few sources to get you started:

Math Associates
(I can't find their address)

Optelecom
15930 Luanne Dr.
Gaithersburg, MD 20877
301-840-2121

International Fiber Systems, Inc.
34 Delmar Dr.
Brookfield, CT 06804
203-775-4961

Force, Inc.
825 Park St. N.E.
Christiansburg, VA 24068
703-382-0462

The above companies sell video links. Places like BT&D, HP, Hitachi,
etc. sell modules from which you could build a link of your own
design. I have no affiliation with any of the mentioned companies.

Good luck.
