I know the physics. I am looking for design guidelines/rules.

Best regards,
Frank

I know of no comprehensive treatment of lightpipe design in a book.
There is a small bit of information in the Field Guide to Illumination
published by the SPIE. There are also a few pages in the "Introduction
to Non Imaging Optics" by Chaves that have a a few pages on light pipe
design although they are geared towards concentrator applications.

The best design references I have come across are a couple of these
papers written by Dr. John Koshel and others -

1. R. J. Koshel, Anurag Gupta, Characterization of lightpipes for
efficient transfer of light, Proc. SPIE, Vol: 5942, pp. 594205, 2001.
2. A. Gupta, J. Lee, R. J. Koshel, Design of efficient lightpipes for
illumination by an analytical approach, Applied Optics, Vol: 40, pp.
3640-3648, 2001.
