We have a quite old SPEX 1402 two stage monochromator driven by a so-called
"COMPUDRIVE" in use. Now I would like to control the spectrometer with a
computer, but I don't know how to make the connection. Unfortunately we
have no description of the spectrometer. Does anybody knows something about
the spectrometer (e.g. handbooks) and/or how to control the step-motor with
a PC and/or something about the "centronics" plug at the spectrometer.

Please send a mail to po...@clio.rz.uni-duesseldorf.de or
a FAX to *49-(0)211-311-4266

Thanks. Martin.

Wow, it's interesting to look at posts twenty years ago with similar goal. We also want to control our Spex 1402 use modern computer but the Horiba guys say they cannot offer any help. Did you find your solution in the end?

Compumotor is a brand used by Parker (parkermotion.com) for stepper
motor or servo motor controller. Motion is generally made with commands
given over a rs232 port. Manuals and support are readily available.

Ooops I see it is Compudrive not Compumotor. If you wanted to control a
motor manually with very fine steps, you could still use a Compumotor-
they microstep to 50,000 steps per rev or finer.
