Your point is? Far better men than you have gone to sea knowing they
were risking their lives for a cause and accepting that risk. And BTW

Most people have no idea what attention to detail and expertise it takes
to dive a boat and return to the top safely. My old boss's son (a
construction engineer) is planning to build a sub out of a salvaged 500
gallon propane tank. He's likely to auto-darwinate.

While I have immense respect for anyone who went in harms way in the
service of our country, the WWII submarine memorial at Seal Beach really
gets to me. It's a very simple place, just a series of plaques listing
the names of the crews of each boat lost. We owe those men a lot.
