I was driving between Washington DC and Baltimore earlier this week,
when a car passed me from New Jersey. I noticed that the plate had a
battleship printed on it, with the word BATTLESHIP across the bottom.
Is this a new plate, or somthing that's been around a while? Perhaps
it's connected to the plan to bring USS New Jersey to the state? Or
maybe some kind of veterans commemorative plate. Anyway, just curious!!

Thanks!

New plates issued this year. Fees go to bringing her home.Plan is to berth USS NJ at Liberty State Park in Jersey City close to Statue
of Liberty and across Hudson from World Trade Center in that other state.

Very perceptive! You are correct, it is a fund raising gimmick to finance
getting the BB NEW JERSEY back from Bremerton.

Now, if you had an (SS) after your rank (and joined SubVets) you could
get a set of plates with *Dolphins* SS prefix letters and "Silent
Service" across the bottom. We've had them for a while but you most
likely haven't noticed since we're a small and *very select* group.

> Over Youth and Vigor. DBF!!! I'll bet your "SS" group is not as small or elite, for that matter as those of
us that could wear(if it existed) a "BB" pin.I will, however, salute those of you that
wear those Dolphins, for they are probably the hardest,or at least in the top 5 of the
hardest to get in the Navy. Before I became a "BB" sailor,(USS New Jersey, Precom
crew, and West Pac tour,Dec '67 to Mar '69.), I was ships company on USS Bushnell,AS15.
(AKA Building 15, Key West Naval Sta.,The Burning Bush,Etc.)I had occasion to ride one
of those OLD deisal boats on a sea trial, while working with the bubblehead E.M.,in
trying to figure out a battery problem.I was fine until they went under.I don't envy any
BH! I sure couldn't do it.
