I'm interested in knowing of they have archive recordings of
their work -- or can help someone find recordings of things
they've done.
I believe "The Cockleshell Heroes" March (from the movie) was
written by F Vivian Dunn, then Principal Director of Music of the
Royal Marines Band(s), but I can find no trace of a recording of
it anywhere.
I'd also like to know where/when the give public performances,
particularly in the face of all the budget cuts.
Many thanks.

They play a fair bit down here in Portsmouth, oddly enough.

The current School of Music is the former RNDQs (Detention Quarters)
Quite a good place to send the Booty Band, unfortunately they allow them
out at the end of the day! :)

PS Before any Booty type flames me, I actually like the music played by
the RM bands!

They have a quarterly magazine (The Blue Band), tel No. 00705 726173.
It's only £6 per year, and worth it if you are interested in the bands.

There doesn't appear to be a complete list of all their recordings. The
bands have individual disks/cassettes - Plymouth is the most prolific,
producing a range of CD's with marches, swing band (they have a great
Big Band), and a particularly good one of virtuoso solo performances
called "Ashokan Farewell".

The five bands give many public performances. You've just missed the
best - the Mounbatten Festival of Music at the Albert Hallm (200+
musicians). Budget cuts don't come into it, really - they charge for
mostof their public appearances, and actually earn quite a bit of money
from performance fees and record sales. They also give private
performances (they can be hired, military commitments permitting, for
anything from a few huundred quid upwards depending on the number of
musicians and extent of the programme). The last time I saw a figure
quoted, £3,500 would buy a 1 1/2 hour programme (but that was a couple
of years ago)
The Blue Band magazine gives the projected programme of performances for
each band (but this projection changes if service committments dictate).
Where are you? e-mail me, and I'll try to figure out which performances
will be nearest for you.
