A Friend of mine on Facebook who happens to be a Submariner posted this link. Worth a read, as to how fast things can get rough on a Submarine:

I hope that the boat's "black gang" get their well-deserved Medals...
they have unquestionally done the very right thing w/o orders, saving
themselves, their fellows and the Boat.

Personally, I felt that was a near-rerun of the demise of the R-12.

Thanks, David, for the very interesting reading !

Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.

I'm surprised at how quickly it happened, it
must have been quite a shock to go from straight
down to straight up in such short order.

And Wiki says it's test depth is only 400 feet
barely longer than a boat length, but this
sub reached over a 1000 feet, at least on
one end~

My apologies. Corrected in the subject header. Thank you for the correction. Thank you for everything else, too.

I too,
Was aboard that day..
I was asleep in Hogan's alley..
On the down decent , I and all others were thrown out of their bunks and trapped with all objects that came loose..
Including screaming shipmates..
The up decent was just as bad..
With all persons and loose objects going the other direction up..
I truly thought we would end up at the bottom..
But by the grace of God and some heroic actions by some well trained shipmates we made it through and back to the surface..

It generated some questions in this Navy brats's mind! Feb 1969 I was in Texas where my husband was stationed in the Air Force at the time. Dad and Mom are both gone now. Is there anyone here willing to have a private concersation via e mail or in person?
