The main Russian Advantage is the range of their Cruise missiles, as seen in the Syria attacks. Unless Turkey has Tomahawks, the Klubs outrange them. Klubs can be launched from Submarines, Surface Ships, Aircraft and Shore bases. They are an excellent first strike weapon. Also, the Russians could use Caspian Sea ships to launch them, as seen in the Syria strikes recently, or use bomber aircraft from other regions of Russia. Russia also has SAMs there.

On Turkey's side, they have naval numbers (Trying to think of how they deal with Subs, though) and their air force is packed with F-16s. The main thing they have going for them is that they are a NATO member. Assuming Russia initiates contact, they can call on that alliance. Hopefully that is the main deterrence to things getting really bad there.

If Turkey can deal with Klubs, and we don't have much knowledge of their countermeasures, things look better for them. Subs are still a concern for both sides. Russia has their various submarines, and Turkey has a force of German-built Type 209 submarines. Those Submarines do have an optional Harpoon launch capability, along with their torpedoes. I would believe that, as a NATO member, Turkey would have that capability on those submarines. They would also be quite capable in the Black Sea or the Bosporus. Wikipedia lists Turkey as being in possession of 14 of these vessels.

Here's hoping this discussion remains academic. Thank you for bringing it up though, Jonathan. It makes for interesting study.
