What isn't mentioned, perhaps anytime in the program, is that the
ships are Canadian. I see the frigates Ottawa 341 and Regina 334. Lots
of playing with Sea Sparrow surface to air and Sea Witch gatling. Big
moment is the use of a Sea Sparrow as a surface to surface missile. A
little google suggests the date is 2006 and the target is the HMCS
Huron.

Too late! The "tall ships", most of them from Washington State seems like,
have captured Victoria over the weekend and are sailing today for Tacoma
with their booty. :)

Bad idea, the Tacomans are noted for ability to remove itinerant
seapersons from their booty. Most of my family are residents and you
will find that booty on e-bay by the weekend.

You have been warned. Remember, it's "two by sea" but "one" if they get
ashore and onto I-5 and try that way. (although they should be easy to
capture trapped on the I-5 most of the time)

Columbia..

They berthed on the Willimatte when they passed through earlier this
year....
Walking to is reasonabbly safe.
Walking ON is not recomended..

oversupply of Pinot Noir grapes here in the Willamette valley--
so the wineries will be working hard to make sure there is
plenty of good Pinot Noir to send back east.
Totally OT for SMN, but I found Willamette Valley Pinots in
Emeril's in Las Vegas and at a small restaurant near the
North Rim of the Grand Canyon last week. It looks like
our wine merchants are working hard to get Pinot Noir
to new markets.

They sell very well here in Central Florida, Total, a big time chain
of stores, has a whole wall of Oregon PNs. My problem is finding Pinot
Gris, still a bargain. We did Oregon for two weeks last September,
Coast for a few days but mostly in Hillsboro doing wineries and food,
Powells, me olde college, Reed, and the MacMenamins where we could
find them.
One gimmick the California wineries are practicing is taking their
surplus and bottling it under a one-off label. Local wine writer
mentioned that in London most of the California wines he had never
heard of.

Our local liquor store is carring an aussie thing called Billy Rock
Chardonnay in a can. Is it possible that it's actually drinkable ?

IIRC the wine in a can thing is an invention of the airlines. I was at
a winery tasting room in Mendocino County and they had an extensive
display of wines in a can. Better than trying to corkscrew a 747 full
of connoisseurs individual selections.

At the AMF(L) artillery conference at Larkhill in 1986, the Packway Mess
issued us conferenciers an "Italian boxed lunch" for a trip to the ranges. Its
"Italian" character came from the fact it included a 250 ml can of quite
drinkable red plonk, in no way degraded by its container -- a nice touch, if
you ask me.

There was a *reason* we preferred to visit the Italians at their base
near Nasiriyah, rather than have them come to us :)

If we went to them, we got wine with lunch. If they came to us, we all
had "orange" or "purple" or "green" (cold water with citric acid,
artificial flavour and dye added in three varieties - hard to be sure
what it was meant to taste of, but it was safe to drink and kept you
hydrated). So, given a choice, we preferred to visit the Italians.
This was back in 2005 when the Italians were looking after Dhi Qar
province and also provided the deputy commander of MND(SE), so we had a
fair few of them around.

SWMBO picked up a few cans of the Billy Rock Chardonnay and I tried it.
Reasonably drinkable, for which I have a fairly simple definition:
Drinkable means that it doesn't taste like they didn't wash thier feet
when they stomped the grapes
