The discovery that cellular development is not a one-way
street has earned this year's Nobel Prize in physiology or
medicine.

...discovery that mature cells can be
reprogrammed to resemble the versatile cells of a very
early embryo. These so-called pluripotent cells have the
ability to become any of the body's tissues.

organisms develop,"

Wouldn't you rather be watching some idiot NFL game on TV? Medical
science clearly isn't your game. You really ought to stick with what
you know, lest you make even more of a fool of yourself than you
already have.

Uncle Steve

Blame Bush for forcing researchers to concentrate on adult cells that
everyone has, perfectly tissue-matched to themselves, instead of
embryonic (fertilized egg, with mixed DNA from both parents) cells
that they may reject.

Gee, do you figure Bush *et al* knew that they would probably be inferior
products when they wrote that law ? Is the American right wing really that
corrupt ? On the plus side, I'm sure the large pharmaceutical companies
enjoyed *windfall profits*, as a resultant.

cheers....Jeff

Blame GWB for what? Both of the major political parties play
bullshit political games with science. Embryonic Stem Cell Research
is only one approach to understanding the mechanisms of gene
expression, which at this point remain largely mysterious. Science
learning how to grow tissues and organs in the lab is hugely important
from the standpoint of mitigating the organ-donor shortage, as well to
obviate the black-market for transplants. It ought to be a priority,
at least in the mainstream medical world, rather than a hot-button
issue for ignorant talking heads.

Unless you really like corrupt politicians controlling medical research,
you should be doing everything in your power to keep the government out
of it.

And potentially politically charged since it undercuts the
"necessity" of aborted fetusesesesssss as a source of stem cells.

Rabid nationalism is one of the rhetorical cop-outs of the illiterate
and innumerate political agitators. Football is nothing more than
stylized ritual of warfare. Meaningful nation strength has nothing to
do with dog-and-pony spectacles, bread and circuses, or religious
rituals.
