I'm going to have my 1-week contact lens exam check-up coming up. Is
this a quick appointment? What will the doctor do? Will he look at my
eyes with the lenses on, off, or both?
Also, I'll get my actual boxes of lenses that day. This office always
seems to come up with amazing charges. Will they allow me to simply buy
2 boxes of my Acuvue 2 lenses or am I going to have to fight them? I
can just imagine them pre-printing an invoice with 8 boxes or something
already on it. I just want two boxes so I can get the lenses elsewhere
later, I don't mind getting the first two boxes from them, which should
be free with the $60 I have remaining on my insurance.
Finally, do you think I'll have to fight them for an official
prescription?
One more thing, is there likely to be more contact lens exam check-ups?
Or is this 1-week one, the final one for the year?
Thanks,
Kimi
He will check your vision and the contacts with them on, then check the eyes
with lenses off.

Depends on office policy. I should think you will be able to just get 2
boxes, but will also have to pay the fitting fee.

Before buying elsewhere, compare prices from your doctor. It may not be
cheaper elsewhere, after paying a fitting fee to your doctor.

Most doctors will issue a contact lens prescription once the fitting is
complete. Fitting is not complete at the one week mark, more likely at end
of six months to a year.

Ask your doctor.

How many boxes would they have me buy to waive the fitting fee, any
idea? If their prices are reasonable I have no problem buying from
them. What does your office charge for Acuvue 2s?
Kimi
You'll have to ask them. In Ontario, optometrists are required, by law, to
charge our cost of materials plus fitting fee, so there is no way to waive
fitting fee. Our new fit fee is a flat fee plus cost of materials and
solutions.

Maybe they don't have that fee here. If the fitting fee is standard
that is cool with me. I thought you were saying if I try to buy my
lenses from someone else in the future they are going to invent new
charges to charge me. haha.
I've already been charged eye exam $55 US and contact lens exam $55 US,
so I'll just have to see what else they'll charge.
Thanks for the help.
