Hi all, I just signed up to help the endangered Piping Plovers in my
community (also Least Terns). I live in Milford, CT. So, I have taken a
step toward getting out of my rut (most of my typing has gone to India - old
story). I still do part-time at home (? how long). Besides family, what
do you all do other than transcription?

Where do I start? I am still doing about 3 to 4 hours of transcription a
day at home.

We used to raise horses for more than 50 years, Arabians, trained them and
showed them ourselves. I have 2 old broodmares in the pasture, retired,
that I talk to and spoil. They are too fat!

We have 2 Salukis that we show. I saw a tee shirt recently that said, "My
dogs aren't spoiled, I'm just well-trained." That's us.

We (my husband of 55 years and myself) SCUBA dive when we can afford it. I
used to teach, but insurance got too high to do it part time, and it didn't
pay well enough for full time.

I am an amateur artist--have sold some drawings in the past but a slight
tremor makes me not as good as I used to be which is frustrating.

I sew and quilt. I also crochet, which I prefer to knitting. I also dabble
in jewelry making--actually plan to do more of that and hope to sell some
pieces.

I garden. We still raise some of our own food and I love roses and other
flowering plants--it's a year-round activity in south Florida.

I swim, nearly every day, and I read as much as I can find time for! I'm
not a very social animal--prefer my activities at home and the society of my
animals.

I am a really good cook when the spirit moves me, which is less and less
these days with just the 2 of us and a husband who thought Army food was
just the best! My 3 children all are great cooks.

Probably the term "Jack of all trades, master of none" would fit me pretty
well, although when younger I was kind of a "master" with the horses,
breeding, training, showing, judging. I miss that a lot, but age creeps up
and I've taken too many tumbles in the past to risk much horse activity
other than feeding them carrots, hugging them, and telling them my troubles.

Hi Barbara, your note made me tired. I see you do keep very busy. You are
an inspiration. I do like to make jewelry and sometimes paint, so will try
these again. It is so hard, after working fulltime, to fill in hours, but
will try. I used to live in So. FLorida, near Univ. of Miami, but moved to
CT about 30 years ago. You sound like you have a nice place there and are
so busy. Thank you for your note-I remember you stated once you lived in
Newport and had horses there-that was a nice note. I type about 4 to 5
hours per day and go into office to check work and pick up some. I really
miss the plastic surgeon eye doc i used to type. Now, I mostly type for the
pediatric eye doc. There are some other duties, too, he puts out a
newsletter to get into the community and also a mailing list, so other
thinges besides transcription. I hope it lasts, tho, there has been many
changes in the office this past 1.5 years.

Take care and have a nice day.

I"m pretty much a home body, too. Have a fairly comfortable work load
and don't want to work all day anymore if I can help it. I have two
horses I enjoy riding - and can't wait for this SNOW (getting more as we
speak) is gone so I can get back out on the trails.

I'm a recent convert of mountain-biking.... great cardio exercise,
healthy, nature, fresh air, new friends, out of the house and off the
internet.

In the last year I've been concentrating on diet and exercise, learning
some low-fat cooking techniques. I occasionally write a short story. I
wrote one about two years ago, am trying to get going on another one
soon. It takes me forever to think of a story and write it, I'm just
incredibly slow. I also enjoy reading. I like to take hikes on the
nature trails near our home. I too am a home body, just enjoy relaxing
here, cleaning house when the spirit and the dust balls move me.

We are in Homestead. I grew up in New England--went to school in Newport,
but lived in Tiverton, RI (next to Fall River, Mass.)--a little town on the
Sakonet River. Lived in NJ for 27 years before we moved to Florida. Used
to show horses in CT.

I keep busy. I think that is the secret to keeping your mind and body as
you age.

My hours sure haven't been cut in half but I do keep very busy outside of
work - if I didn't I would go NUTSO!! I have an 8yo who plays sports and
baseball season is getting ready to start up here. We decided to home-
school this year and that is going well and has actually given us more
family time than traditional school. We have four horses and now four
dogs. We got a beagle puppy almost two weeks ago. I help my mom take care
of my grandmother with Alzheimer's and my grandfather - they live just a
few miles away. I spend a lot of time at the barn taking care of the
horses and working with them and preparing for shows. My son wanted to do
the show circuit around here this year so we are actually getting ready to
go to a show today.
