Now, I am inclined to go with the LaLeche spelling, only because they have a
URL with that spelling.
This is a case where right after I posted the word, I took a shot at my
(total guess) spelling and it turned up sites, so I am glad I didn't just go
with that spelling thinking it was correct.
Thanks a bunch for your help.

La Leche League, a breastfeeding advocacy group that also tends to
sometimes support some eccentric parenting methods, like having your

I thought I read in some gossip magazine that she was leaving the show?
Wow, I only took a year of Spanish after 8 years of French (at my
mother's demand) and the only thing I will admit to knowing how to say
in Spanish -- that isn't corrupted with any French -- is what's most
important -- Donde esta los banos?

Some idiot implanted breast implants into a woman's derriere, so then she was
sitting on her nips and then the difficulty of breastfeeding in this position
also came up. It was quite funny, too bad for the poor woman that it happened
to. Why are we getting such crazy physicians. Remember the doc who carved his
initials in the patient's abdomen.

ahem... I must jump in here, since I was a La Leche League leader in my
past. I did not wear the baby 24/7, and I did not nurse around the clock. My
babies/children slept with me whenever it was convenient to do so. They did
not nurse until they went off to school. I had people harrassing me when Meg
was 2 years old and very dependent on me... they wanted me to shove her off
to daycare somewhere so she would be "independent." When she went to first
grade her teacher asked me where I had sent her to kindergarten because she
was very socially advanced and independent for a 6-year-old. When I told her
that she had not gone to kindergarten she was so shocked. Imagine! A child
learning social skills and self confidence at home with her family!
My point is... not all people who believe that breastfeeding is best (and
not just because it is nutritionally superior), and who attend La Leche
League meetings are weirdos. Some are, some aren't. I may be an arrogant
pissant, but I am not a weirdo. And my kids did not turn into sexual
perverts because they slept with us when they needed to.
Yes, some people who attend La Leche League meetings are... odd, but it is
an open meeting and you can't really tell someone not to attend because you
don't like them. But the majority of them are wonderful mothers who are just
loving their kids and doing what they think is best. If it's not for you,
then by all means skip it, but they gave me lots of support when I needed
it, and they supported what I felt were my basic mothering instincts instead
of telling me that what I was feeling was wrong.
OK, flame away...
Kathy, the arrogant pissant lives on.

Save those pennies and go to Guatemala for a 2 month submersion program with
me. We could say we were married and may be get a discount. That part isn't
the expensive part, actually it is quite cheap. I think may be 600 for the two
months which includes living arrangements and food. The big problemo is going
dos months without an American salary.
I am going to do this, in between filling in with my MTSO sitting business.

LOL! Thanks, Cindy for not "warring." My observance over the past 50 years,
for what it's worth: I have known parents of all sorts and kinds, and they
get all kinds of "outcomes" with their children (all sorts and kinds). So,
I'll not rake anyone over the coals for not doing it my preferred way. But,
I do get defensive if anyone doesn't show "my way" the same courtesy. (I
don't think that was done here, BTW).
Here's another one of my observances and wise sayings <G>:
Parenting is very difficult. 99.9% of parents are doing the best they can at
the time. That's it. We're all doing the best we can. And for myself, I
*try* to support and give positive feedback to young parents when I can
because I can still remember those days... and how much I appreciated a kind
word. (I was a very different parent to my now-30-year-old son than I was
to my 20-year-old daughter -- being 19 when my son was born, but in both
cases I did the best I could do at the time).
So, I appreciate no "whose the better parent" war here. <g>

I was trying to lose weight and that probably didn't help. Nor did the
pediatrician who panicked me because I thought baby was starving. I later found
out from a nurse who was personal friends with her that the doctor herself had
had trouble nursing and it seemed the nurse thought maybe she was a bit biased
because of it.

In this country, people think about it TOO much. I wonder how many tribal women
in Africa or people in any rural third-world country ever have a problem
nursing if they have adequate nutrition. I'm betting not many. Many of our
generation didn't grow up seeing it done. There it is just a given fact. They
don't have people saying you are feeding too often or not often enough. Baby
cries, it goes to the breast. Period. No one agonizes over the fact it is still
nursing at age x (fill in the age any one person here finds it disgusting).
