If this has been discussed previously, please excuse my asking
again, but I could find nothing when doing a search.

I used the spell utility to add words to the main dictionary and
now when I do a spell check, I get really strange words--either
the words are already in the dictionary and spelled correctly, OR
I have words in the dictionary that are incorrect, even though
prior to the additions they were correct. For example, spell
check will stop on the word "tight" and as an option it will give
me "thght". (It seems all "ti..." words are now "th..." words!)
For "smoking", I get the option of "sloking"!!

Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance for your ideas.

You can delete words from your dictionary much the same way that you add
words. When you go into the spell utility, there is an option to delete
words. I plan to delete "aspiring" because I noticed once that I had
mispelled aspirin as aspiring.

Did you follow Gail's previously-posted excellent advice and back up
your spelling dictionary before doing this? It sounds like there might
have been some type of file corruption or similar type of problem.

Did you happen to eyeball your spelling dictionary you were using for
updates, and did it look okay?

<shudder> That reminds me of the commercial spellchecker my ex-boss
bought as an add-on to her Mac for MS Word ?3.5? that had countless
errors. We could never depend on it for drugs at all, and trying to
keep up with the "don't allow this spelling" function that was somewhat
in MS Word for Mac drove her buggy.
