I bought a cappuccino maker!

Now can somebody tell me how to make cappuccino that tastes better than
boiled work socks?

I made my first cup a few minutes ago. I think I didn't put enough water in
the thing. I ran out of steam before the milk got hot and bothered. I took
the first sip, and it blew my socks plumb across the den!!

I want this to taste like the fantastic 95 cent cappuccino I get at the 7-11
from their machine.

Any help, advice, or prayers would be appreciateded.

Thanks,

Here's how:
1. Go to your local grocery store.

2. Buy a tin of General Foods International Coffee, French Vanilla Cafe
flavor. The Italian flavor is pretty good too.

3. Put 4 heaping teaspoons of it in an average-size coffee mug.

4. Add not-quite-boiling water.

5. Stir.

6. Add a touch of milk.

First return the machine to where you bought it. Then follow directions in
post by Bambi C.

Neal,
I have a cappucino maker and have made really good ones.... Not sure what
you are doing wrong, though.

Kathy, who thinks she will get out the old cappucino maker and see if it
still works.

I prefer the Orange Cappuccino. In the summer, I make a big container of it
and keep it in the refrigerator for instant ice coffee.

Neal,

Try different grinds, i.e. a more coarse grind gives a weaker flavor, the
more finely ground gives stronger flavor. Also, try some of those Toriani
syrups if you like flavored, like vanilla. I put a little in the bottom of
the cup, then the coffee then the cream, it hardly needs sugar. Oh ya, one
more thing, that little whirring foam milk maker thing - make sure that
after you use it you release the pressure through the tube to clear it out.
I forgot and let it go for a few hours, I guess the milk dried inside the
tube and would not blow the hot steam out anymore. I had to soak the milk
foamer thing in a large cup of hot water overnight to clear it. Just
experiment with different coffees, grinds and syrups.

Ugh! I really don't understand how people can drink those chemical
concoctions and think they have anything to do with cappuccino.

Cappuccino is supposed to blow your socks off, Neal. This is the only
country in the world that only half roasts its coffee. Everyone else has
figured out darker is better, and Italian espresso/cappuccino is supposed to
be made with a really strong dark roast. For everyday coffee I buy El Pico,
which is a really good Puerto Rican brand. I usually make it with a
standard coffee maker though, not a clean sock, or one of those little
flannel pointy bags they sell these days to those who want to be upscale
Latino.

As to running out of steam, etc., I suppose it would be pointless to suggest
you read the directions that came with the maker? Nah, that wouldn't be
consistent with anything you've tried with your computer, and I suspect
refusing to read directions is chromosomally ingrained behavior. <smile>.

Ouchies! You know how to hurt a guy!

I think the main prob was that I filled the little decanter to the 1 cup
mark with water, not realizing it was such a little cup. Okay, so it didn't
look very big, but I didn't think of that. Of course, I filled the milk up
to almost the top of the cup, resulting in milk going everywhere when I
tried to froth it, but that is another story.

My main thing is that I don't know exactly what to put in it to get the
French vanilla flavor. I bought some dark roast French grind coffee, then
used about a teaspoon and a half of Vanilla Extract, but still couldn't
taste the vanilla .

.... and I DID read the destructions!!

Neal,
You have to buy the bottles of Toriani syrup to get the flavoring. At least
I've never used anything else that is satisfactory.

And you are not alone. I have tried to make stuff with mine that
compares to what you can get at starbucks. And have been
disappointed. It's in the closet gathering dust.

Someone must use and have success with home espresso machines.
Anyone?

To a non-coffee-drinker like me, it tastes great! To paraphrase, I don't know
coffee, but I know what I like. <g>

OK, now I understand. There are a lot of people who like orange soda and
Kool-Aid who don't like to drink juice, too. Just as long as you aren't
under the delusion that the stuff is really coffee, let alone good
cappuccino.

Yeah, well obvoiusly Nestle knows how to make stuff that people like.
That's their business, they should know!

But you can go into Dietrich's, Starbucks, wherever, and get great
stuff.

I sure haven't found the combination.

I even bought a better machine. One with a "pump". The first one
just worked by hot water under pressure. The Krups pump thing? No
difference. It must be me. I should apply for a job at Starbucks.
Work their long enough for them to spill the beans on the secret.

Hmm.
