I've had CP for about a year now and Saw Palmetto has done a great job at
curbing any frequent urination problems. My main complaint at this point is
pain while sitting. Since I'm a programmer, I sit a lot. I've tried a
doughnut cushion, and one of those kneeling chairs. I even tried elevated
my monitor and keyboard so I could stand up and work. Nothing has really
helped.

Has anyone found a particular brand/model of chair that helps? I know it
may be personal preference, but I thought I'd ask before trying out every
office chair in the city.<g>

Thanks

I have not found a chair that suits my needs. I sit a lot at a PC, and am
also involved the software/hardware business. I have found that lowering
the key board and 'slouching' has helped. I have tried several types of
chairs, but to now luck. Standing is an alternative, but too much strain on
back and feet all day!

I have noticed that the angle of my hips (more obtuse than acute, 110
degrees?) seems to releive the pressure and spasms. Saw Palmetto helps with
stream for me too, but not the pings or pains associated with my CP. Aleve
helps at the start of the day, but I try not to use it too often.

I have been sufferring from CNBP for over three years now and apart from
the usual sacrifices (no tea, coffee, chocolate or alcohol), the single
largest improvement has come from changing my chair at work. I too work
at a computer terminal for large parts of the day and the 'general issue'
swivel chairs at my place of work come with a generous and soft foam
seat. It was this that was causing unneccesary pressure on my prostate.
What I felt I needed was a seat with no padding, yet comfortable.

After searching long and hard, I found a small firm here in the UK called
'Back in Action' who are based in London and Marlow. They have a dazzling
array of chairs - specifically designed to help back pain sufferers - and
were very helpful. I ended up with a swivel chair which has removable
foam pads (designed for use in clean room environments). In order to
compensate for this lack of padding and prevent pressure sores, the seat
of this chair does not lock in one position, but has a degree of movement
that allows it to adjust to your sitting position. Bloody marvellous it it!

According to my receipt, the chair is an NO-012 (Blue)/GU 1605 with
arms (yeah, like that helps!) and I would whole-heartedly recommend them
to anyone. They are more expensive than your average office swivel chair
however (around 300 UKP including VAT) so it helps to have a sympathetic boss.

I am in no way involved with Back-in Action (other than as a satisfied
customer) and am not receiving any commissions from them or any such thing.
I Merely wanted to throw my tuppenceworth into the ring.

Happy sitting,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I have also thought that if I could solve this "sitting" problem, I would
much better off. Thanks for the detailed information. Now if I can just
find something comparable here in the US.

Wayde,
We just got some new furniture (ergonomic) at work that I feel is very
comfortable. I'm in the IS business and spend many hours sitting. The
chair is called "Aeron" and is manufactured by Herman Miller. Sorry I don't
know the cost but you might give it a try.
-Good Luck
