Dr Shoskes;

I sure wish I knew what to do. I have been taking Q again for about 6 days
and the pain has traveled from my fingers to my wrists, forearm and
shoulder. Its like an ache after you throw a football for a while after not
using your arm in that manner in along time. I stopped Q for a day and the
pain has decreased but now the prostatitis is flaring back. I have not been
on a Quinlone AB for a couple of years. Even when I was on it I stopped the
Quinlones as soon as I felt any pain. All pain from the Cipro, back then,
went away within days of discontinued use and that pain was never in the
finger joints or arm. Again, this was a few years ago.

What other options do I have? I never want to travel down the road of
antibiotics again - they caused me way too much misery (Candida etc).
The Q was like a life saver. I have seen Q mentioned with another
bioflavanoid that begins with the letter "C" - something like cumminin??
Do you think something like that might work? I must sound like a pretty
desperate guy right now - that's probably because that's the way I feel.

Ever see that movie "Awakenings"? Well thanks to the Q I was pain free for
the last 6 months (first time in 6 years). I actually thought I was cured
or at least always knew I had the Q to fall back on. Now I feel like I'm
back to square one.

Doc thanks for your work in this area, it looks like you've helped an awful
lot of us (hey the 6 months of no pain was like heaven!).

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks - Joe T

PS.
Some advice for others on Q. I started taking Q last May for a bad
flare-up. It worked wonders within about 1 week. However, I continued
taking 2 tabs a day for about two months (I was afraid to stop thinking the
CP would return). After about two months I began experiencing the finger
pain so I discontinued the Q at that time. I stayed symptom free for about
3 months after stopping the Q. That brings me to the current flare-up.
Since it took about two months before getting the finger pain, I'm wondering
had I discontinued the Q after the CP symptoms were gone (so about 1 -2
weeks) maybe I would have never experienced the finger joint pain and could
still take it today. Something to think about.

It is difficult for me to come up with meaningful suggestions about
quercetin associated joint pain because I have not seen it in any of my
patients and therefore haven't been able to exam a patient with the
problem. I certainly don't have any clue from published literature on
the bioflavonoids why an effect like that would occur.

I have not tried curcumin in prostatitis patients since it is a spice
(turmeric) and some patients with CP have their symptoms worsened with
spicy foods.
