Hi Dr. Casey,

I'm 36, and have been battling CP for over 4 months now. My family
physician has had me on Cipro until a week ago. The last two weeks on Cipro
were my best to date, but some symptoms still lingered (discomfort sitting,
a pressure feeling before urinating). I was begining to get concerned about
being on an antibiotic for so long, so when the Rx ran out again, my
physician suggested I try a different approach-Cadura. Man, I tried it for
the first time yesterday and the side affects are aweful (light-headed,
fatigue and headache). Before I endure more of this, I thought I'd see if
there's any hope of success with this treatment. Should I go back on Cirpo
again? In the meantime, I'm trying Saw Pallemeto.

Thanks,

Wayde

You may want to ask your doctor about Flomax.

I found that it has much less side effects than Cardura. I cant take Flomax
right now either because of fluid in my ears, but if you dont have congestion
problems you should try it. I have been using pygeum/saw palmetto /zinc combo
with some promising results. Good luck.

In article <6q79jb$lgc$1...@news1.icx.net>,

Alpha blockers are often helpful as an adjunctive treatment in
CP...especially when lower urinary tract voiding symptoms are a predominant
symptom. Saw Palmetto is also a good option. If you're unable to tolerate
Cardura, then you may want to try Flomax (tamsulosin) or try the SP out for a
while. Best of luck.

Cardura has helped me a lot. I found at levels above 2 mg. (I've used as
much as 4 mg.) light-headedness and sexual problems occur. My original dose was
1 mg., working up to 4 mg. over a 1 month period. I have found a dose of about
1 to 1.5 mg. works best without side effects.
For me, antibiotics have never helped. My current regimen has literally
"saved" my gland:
1. Cardura
2.Self-massage (nightly).
3. More frequent sex
4. De-tensing anti-stress excercises
Good Luck! GregS
